Young people in today's Japan are often said to lack basic academic and communibation skills. As these skills are supposed to be the minimum requirements to be an integrated member of society, a gap has emerged between young people and prospective employees of companies, local government, non-profit organizations, etc. To instill in new employees of proper level of awareness and to encourage the appropriate type of behavior as a member of an organization, such business organizations often conduct training programs for the workforce that include basic skills and manners, provided through on the job training(OJT). However, due to their lack of communicarion skills, some recrutits have difficulty building up a good relationship with the preson in charge of the OJT training, resulting in them experiencing problems trying to acquire work-related skills. Harsh economic conditions mean business organizations have fewer resources at their diaposal, therefore many companies require new employees to learn such skills independently within the work environment. Students would be well aware that it is necessary and useful for them to engage in self-initiated learning activities and to take steps to improve their communicarion skills. In taht context, a practical business training course that deals with basic business skills and manners, conducted at universities, is expected to be of huge benefit for those who choose to take such a course, In addition, a learning method which incorporates a PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, based on feedback from teachers or peers, would empower students to become self-initiated learners.
