This article aims to bring out the picture of "zest for life" of the children after World War II by focusing on "Zest for life", which is the important philosophical construct of the current educational law of our country. "Zest for life" is defined as the "holistic quality", composed by three elements including knowledge (academic ability), ethic (rich spirit and morality) and body (health / physical energy), which is an important concept used to simply set forth a goal in public education. This article, by analyzing various factors such as Japan's current of the academic ability of students, proclivity of juvenile crime and numbers from the physical performance test, reveals the achievements and problems of the overall post war education. It also brings up the gap of the post war children image between general impression of the public and actual data based on these analysis.
