In this paper, physical properties of soils developed in MIYAKO Is. and ISHIGAKI Is. are reported. Soils of MIYAKO Is. are examined for the samples passing 2,000μ sieve. Soils of ISHIGAKI Is. are examined for the samples inciuding sands and gravels partially. MIYAKO Is. is covered with "RYUKYU LIMESTONE" -Quarternary sedimentary rocks, overlaying the "SHIMAJlRI FORMATION"- Tertiary mudstnoes and sandstones. ISHIGAKI Is. is geologicaly complicated and there are many sorts of rocks developed in time from Mesozoic era to Cenozoic (Pleistocene) era. Those soils decomposed and trasported from or resided over the mother rocks are characterized with the grain sizes, mineral and chemical compositions naturally under the subtropical and humid tropical condition. Test results are discussed in relation to the Japanese Unified Soil Classification System. Almost fine soils on these islands are identified to CH, CH', and CL on the plasticity chart, and ciassified into F-soils, some [SF], [GF]-soils on the trilinear chart.
