In this paper, physical properties of fine soils developed in northern area of Okinawa Island are reported. Fine soils (here <2,000μ) in this area are colored predominantly with red, yellow, brown, and differs widely in their formation due to their geological condition (Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic Era on geological time scale) comparing with the soils of southern and central area of this island. However, generally speaking, in regarding only their physical properties (specific gravity, moisture content, grain size distribution characteristics and Atterberg limits) ther is no much difference between northern and southern-middle area. Test results are cited in relation to the Japanese Unified Soil Classification System, and almost fine soils on this island are identified to CH and CL on the plasticity Chart.
