Canada is a 144-year-old continental country squatting over the two oceans: the Pacific and the Atlantic. This federation consists of 10 provinces and 3 territories. As a whole, Canadian political cultures are noticeably different from American political cultures. It is also argued that Canada contains a plural number of political cultures, different internally from one region to another. These diverse and complex regional cultures have been determined by the pattern of immigration, given that all Canadians but the Natives are descendants of immigrants or immigrants themselves. Those newcomers have moved their own cultural baggage with them to leave their indelible imprints on Canada's cultural landscape not only in the form of anthropological (ethnic) cultures but also in that of political cultures. Various immigrant groups have made indispensable contributions to the making and nurturing of Canada's political cultures. In the founding of the country, French immigrants implanted the feudal fragment in la Nouvelle France to produce conservative political cultures in Quebec, while the United Empire Loyalists brought liberalism with the Tory touch with them into Ontario. While British immigrants have influenced politics in Saskatchewan with their socialistic ideas while American settlers tinge Albertan politics with their populism. British Columbia and the Australian states show somewhat similar traits in their political cultures most likely due to the timing of their settlements, begetting radicalism.
