千葉大学大学院社会文化科学研究科研究プロジェクト報告書第129集「多文化共生社会における言語管理接触場面の言語管理研究vol.4」村岡英裕編The focus of this research is to analyze requests for clarification employed by eightnon-native speakers of Japanese with intermediate level in conversations with their Japanesecounterparts. The data were taken from eight group conversations, each of which was formedby one native speaker and two non-native speakers. Categorization of utterance intentionsused in the present research is based on Ozaki (1993) with slight modification. Findingsthrough this research include (1) utterance intentions are interpreted not only by linguisticforms, but also by various sources in the discourse as well as by contextual meanings; (2) notall problems perceived by the non-native speakers are solved correctly even if the utteranceintentions are correctly interpreted.
