The object of this study is to clarify the effects of pre-stress and confinement on the ultimate strength and deformations of pre-stressed concrete small column models subjected to Kobe earthquake-like condition Six small specimens were tested on a shaking table. The size of cross-section used was 75mmx75mm on a 1/18-scaled model Peak table acceleration was increased up to the collapse limit state. Horizontal and vertical waves simulating the scled-down acceleration of the Kobe erthquake were applied simultaneously. Based on the test results, the envelope curves of load-response displacements were examined It was shown that the observations made in this study confirm the correctness of test results performed on the 1/18 scaled models. As for residual displacement when the acceleration level was not reached up to the yield point of longitudinal reinforcement at the column base, adequate confinements were required But after peak load, the over confinements(>0.18%) were not efficient because of strain intensity in the longitudinal steel at the column base.
