Faculty of Science for Living at Hiroshima Bunka Women's Junior College has required its students, at first the primary students 26 years ago (in 1969), to submit reports of their independent studies at the time of graduation. Research details of these graduation reports have varied depending on changes of social conditions and contents of education with the lapse of time. There are observed substantial changes both in research areas and in research methods in the progress of research details of the graduation reports during the past 26 years. The name of former Faculty of Food and Nutrition was changed into Faculty of Science for Living 3 years ago and the contents of instruction in the faculty were also changed completely. Graduation reports in this year (1994) are the 2nd ones since we have begun to give education in accordance with new curricula. In taking a review of the progress of research details during recent 15 years, we can indicate as follows. 1. In view of the number of studies by research area, studies in the areas of food science, cookery and hygiene and physiology have been decreased substantially in recent several years, and in the contrary, studies in the areas of food life and eating culture and living and information have been increased remarkably. 2. In view of the number of studies by research method, experimental studies which were quite typical in the past have been radically decreased and studies about cookery have also been reduced. In the contrary, research and investigation by questionnaire and hearing through literature have been increased remarkably. There have also appeared studies concerning creation including creation of dances taking into consideration energy consumption, various kinds of video works and production of picture books by means of a personal computer. 3. Reflecting the tendency toward an information society in recent years, there have appeared many studies which use computers, and audiovisual equipment including video devices has become to be used as research media. 4. Changes of research details in the graduation reports have occurred earlier than revisions of details of instruction in the faculty. That is to say, students' interests in contents of research have changed earlier and then revisions of curricula have been made. 5. The trend of research details in the graduation reports can be considered to be an indicator of scientific interests of students and also a target of preparing details of education in the faculty.
