In this study, a survey was conducted at a women's junior college to find out how much knowledge and consciousness the students had had and what kinds of things they had been doing daily to be in good health and in better health. The survey was also purported to discuss the effectiveness of the health education at the college. The survey was conducted in June, 1984 by questionnaires and 761 students, or 93% of the total of the students at the women's junior college, who were in their first and second year participated in the survey. From the results of the survey, we found that there were differences In students' knowledge, consciousness and practice of healthy life depending on their majors and the years the students were in. The students who were majoring in food and nutrition studies showed that they had fairly deep knowledge and consciousness of physical, mental and social health, especially of the physical one. And the writers infer that this result must reflect the effectiveness of the health education in the students' major studies. On the other hand, the results of the survey showed that the students who enrolled In the department of clothing tended to lack their efforts to be in good health comparing with the students who enrolled in other departments at the women's junior college. And this tendency was clearer among the second year students than the first year students in that department. The results of the survey also showed the students of the music department had fairly superficial knowledge and consciousness of healthy life at the time when they just entered the college, but their knowledge and consciousness of healthy life were deepened through the one year of their college lives. The students who enrolled in the department of early childhood education showed that they had been taking favorable attitudes toward the practice of social health, and this should be a proof of the effectiveness of the education in their major studies. From the results of this survey, writers conclude that a student's practice of her healthy life is not necessarily related to the levels of her knowledge and consciousness of her healthy life. Hence the real health education should be centered to emphasize the practice of healthy life to students, and the health education which is based on the principle of healthy life must be most important to improve students' health at women's junior colleges.
