Up to date, I have made a study on colored nurse-uniforms and collected people's impressions on them; I have compared the eye-rest white ones with ordinary white ones. The result was that the impression toward the white uniforms has not been influenced by the difference of generations; both wearers and lookers-on like the present-day white and well-starched ones. Under these circumstances, I have made the study of how they are soiled. First, based on the enqu?te, I have made clear what parts of the clothes were most damaged and soiled. Thus, I have found the basic data for the material and the design for the uniforms. The items of investigation were the easiness to wear, open seams, wearability, the degree of soil, and the number of washing and wearing times. Selecting places easy to soil such as collars, sleeves, breasts, abdomens, and hems of skirts, I made a test of the degree of soil physically and chemically for three days. Most hospital nurses recently having about five uniforms and wearing them by turns, the results shown as the numbers of washing and wearing times were not accurate but starching and ironining, I suppose, are liable to open seams or wearing out. The most soiled places are nearly the same as our ordinary clothes. According to the enqu?te, breasts and abdomens are soiled by using injection in most cases, while collars, cuffs by sweat, dust and dirt. The above results will help us to know what material and what design to be used for the purpose of avoiding as much damage and soil as possible.
