To address the current situation where a smooth connection between universities and society is difficult to establish, higher education institutions provide their students with career support. First, this paper reviews the history of career research, a theoretical base for career support. Then it also reviews how career research is influenced by pedagogy and business administration, which represent two perspectives for approaching career support. Finally, comparing actual career support and its theory, this paper concludes that it is critical to develop independent career consciousness among students, clarify an exit in career development stages, and promote career formation on a university-wide basis.
