Experiments have been made with flat vanes in two-dimensional diffusers with divergence angles of 30° and 60° and an area ratio of 4:1, to determine the optimum vane location and the effect of vanes on the pressure recovery. The performance of these diffusers was improved by means of short flat vanes placed in the vicinity of the diffuser inlet section.The basic criteria for effective vane configurations were developed, based on the optimum performance and the flow mechanisms of the simple diffusers, and indicated that the vanes should have a certain predictable length dependent upon the diffuser geometry.
