海外子会社の製品開発活動と成果に関する一考察--住友スリーエムの1960年代～1990年代初頭の事例を中心に

[要旨] 本稿は, 住友スリーエムの製品開発活動がグローバルな成果を生成するまでのプロセスを解明し, このプロセスに多国籍企業の内部環境と部環境(現地環境)の要因がいかなる影響を及ぼしたのか分析することを研究の目的としている。先行研究の課題を踏まえ, 住友スリーエムの1960年代から1990年代初頭の事例における, (1)内部環境要因と外部環境要因の各構成要素が製品開発活動に及ぼす影響, (2)その過程において生じる構成要素間の相互作用, (3)それらの影響に基づく製品開発活動が成果に及ぼす影響を分析した。その結果, 内外環境要因の各構成要素とその相互作用が, 海外子会社の製品開発活動に及ぼす多様な影響と成果との関係などが新たに明らかになった。 [Abstract] The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of internal/external environmental factors on product development activities in an overseas subsidiary and its performance. Using the data from the case study of Sumitomo 3M between the 1960s and the beginning of the 1990s, I examined the following three points: (1) the influence of the elements of internal/external environmental factors on the product development activities; (2) the relationship among these elements ; and (3) the results of their influence on product development activities and the overseas subsidiary's performance. The case studysuggests that the elements of internal/external environmental factors influence product development activities in an overseas subsidiary and its performance in several ways.
