In this report, we introduce a successful example of usage of an Englishe-Learning system, i.e., ALC NetAcademy2, in an English class of‘Technical English Exercise’ (which is offered for third-year students inSchool of Mechanical Engineering, Collage of Science and Engineering,Kanazawa University). We evaluated the effectiveness of combination ofe-Learning systems and English classes, using TOEIC equivalent scoresobtained from the e-Learning system. In 2010, ninety-seven studentsparticipated in this class in the first or second semester. The averagescore was approximately 400 points at the beginning of this class.However, at the end of the class, the score was approximately improvedup to 500 points. Although e-Learning systems are generally designedand developed for self study, the effectiveness is likely further enhancedby an appropriate instruction, e.g., a schedule management by teachers.We conclude that the combination of e-Learning systems and Englishclasses can effectively improve student’s English skills.
