This study examines the diverse usage of feminine sentence final forms in terms of “speech function” documented through the disagreements of men and women in their 20s. The result of the analysis surveyed four speech functions for feminine sentence final forms. These speech functions are: expressions representing “masculine elements” only, expressions representing “feminine elements” only, expressions representing both, and expressions representing neither elements. From this, the inability to explain the speech function of feminine sentence final forms from the existing definition that feminine sentence final forms have only feminine elements was comprehended. In terms of speech function, this signifies feminine sentence final forms can be seen as “non-gender based” These results support, with regards to evidence of the repudiation of gender based linguistics, the relevance of this study’s analytic perspective.
