Brennan and Pylkkänen (2008) claim to have obtained experimental evidence for aspectual coercion(with a specific direction). However, their conclusion is invalid. For one thing, they misconstruedthe issue. For another, their result does not support their conclusion; rather, in the absence of a hithertounknown new interpretation, a comparison of their result with the previous findings in the literaturesupports a noncoercion analysis that Brennan & Pylkkänen believe to have succeeded in dismissing.
