We studied the relationships between the qualities of the flower organ and immature fruit and those of mature fruit in three sweet cherry cultivars in order to distinguish the flower or immature fruit that will grow large and provide good quality. The larger the fruit and fruit having a thicker peduncle 18 days after full bloom (DAFB) in early-ripening cultivar 'Jabouley', the larger the fruit and fruit with longer longitudinal length 18 DAFB in medium-ripening cultivar 'Satohnishiki', and the larger the fruit in equatorial and side diameter 30 DAFB in late-ripening 'Napoleon', the larger the fruit developed at harvest. Among the three cultivars tested, 'Jabouley' showed the clearest tendency to reflect the qualities of immature fruit to those of mature fruit. However, the results of multiple regression analysis to explain the qualities of mature fruit with the qualities based on the immature fruit suggested difficulty in distinguishing immature fruit that will grow large and be good quality in these sweet cherry cultivars.
