Estimating the earth’s radius from depressive angle of the horizon is not thought to be effective because of refraction in the atmosphere. Actuary a measured depressive angle of horizon in our field work at Mt. Daisen is much smaller than ageometrically estimated value. However, after calculating angle shift by refraction in the atmosphere, observed depressive angle can be corrected with an error of 0.01degree which gives an accuracy of a few percent to the earth’s radius.
