• Since１９９８, the Bone and Joint Decade（BJD）２０００‐２０１０has been conducted in９７countries, toreduce the burden and cost of musculoskeletal disorders for individuals and society, and to promotemusculoskeletal health and science worldwide with a cooperation of WHO and UN. The BJD JapanNation Action Network（NAN）has promoted the BJD mission in collaborated with ４７ academicorganizations,８sports associations,１０patients groups and９corporations, coordinating and workingclosely with a number of entities such as volunteer groups, health professionals and governmentagencies. To promote a better understandings of musculoskeletal system, the Japanese word“運動器”was adopted for the campaign in Japan.Under the umbrella of the BJD, the Japanese Orthopedic Association and other participatingorganizations have worked to establish a check-up and prevention system for the locomotive syndromewhich is one of major cause of receiving care for the senile person in Japan. The Japan NAN has alsopromoted a project to establish a bone and joint check-up system for school children, working closelywith the Japanese Association of School Health, Japanese Physicians Association. Some projects forprevention of sport-related injuries have been carried out.The bone and Joint Decade２０００‐２０１０came to its final year. Much has been accomplished butmuch remains to be done. The renewal of the mandate for the Bone and Joint Decade for another１０ years（２０１０‐２０２０）with a vision“Keep People Moving”was decided in the all participatingcountries. Also in Japan, The Japan Association for the Bone and Joint Decade was founded in２０１１,and started to promote the Bone and Joint health for Japanese people.
