[Abstract] The propagating characteristics and the polarization dependency of a coupling system in which two identical cylindrical dielectric waveguides are twisting along a coupling axis is examined theoretically by employing a coupled mode theory. The possibilities of realizing new optical devices such as a wavelength adjustable polarization beam splitter and a polarization insensitive coupler are discussed. A theoretical explanation about the remarkable change of polarization dependency relating to the twisting rate is also described.
