In order to establish a new academic field of Peace Education Studies, relevant research topics and methods are considered. First, I discuss the current state of peace education and its problems. Peace education in the narrow sense, traditional peace education related to war, has not succeeded in developing a realistic prospect of preventing war and creating peace. Peace education in the wide sense, comprehensive peace education, broadened the concept of peace education by incorporating the themes of human rights, the environment, and development, etc. and has become a kind of general education. It is also difficult to distinguish from other areas of education, for example, education for international understanding. Second I consider the use of research methods used in intercultural education studies for the study of peace education from two perspectives: an approach from research in the field of Peace Education and an approach from other academic fields. In relation to the latter approach, I systematically elucidate research topics for different aspects of peace education, for example, curriculum, teaching methods, development theory and adult education.平和教育学という新たな学問領域を構築するための研究課題と研究方法を考察した。第1に、これまでの平和教育の到達点と問題点を整理し、戦争に関する伝統的な平和教育である「狭義の平和教育」が戦争を阻止し平和を創造する上で十分に現実的な展望をもつことに成功していないという点と、人権・環境・開発等のテーマを含んだ「広義の平和教育(包括的平和教育)」は平和教育の概念を拡張したため教育一般と同義になったり、たとえば国際理解教育等の他領域との異同が見えにくくなるという問題をはらんでいる点を論じた。第2に、平和教育学の研究方法を考察するために異文化間教育学の課題と方法の議論を参照し、「平和教育の研究領域からのアプローチ」と「既存学問分野からのアプローチ」の二通りのアプローチの方法を仮説的に論じた。さらに、後者に関しては、たとえばカリキュラム論・方法論・発達論・成人教育論などの教育学の各領域ごとに、平和教育学の課題を体系的に提示した。
