Farmers' incomes are likely to be affected by the weather and vary greatly in comparison with employees' income. The objective of this research is to clarify how a full-time farmer's household managed its household economy by its household account books from 1977 to 1992. During this time the market for agricultural products was liberalized and economic circumstances around farmers' households changed. Despite economic growth, a farmer's income declined. On the other hand, agricultural expenses increased. So disposable income of the latter period decreased to 74% of that in the former period. The decrease was supplemented by a governmental subsidy. In addition, to cope with decrease of the income, the household reduced expenses besides medical care expenditure and utilized more agricultural in-house products. In the latter period, the contribution of in-house products in total household expenditure was about 20%. Given that both yearly and monthly incomes were largely fluctuated, the household saved deposit regularly to keep stability of its budget.
