Thought control strategies is regarded as a strategy for controlling intrusive thoughts, assessed with Thought Control Questionnaire (TCQ). This article reviewed previous studies on the relationships between TCQ and intrusive thoughts and symptoms in various anxiety disorders, depression, and the relationship between TCQ and anxious symptom. The previous studies were classified into two types : the correltaional approach (examining sorrelations between TCQ and scales of intrusive thoughts, sumptoms), and the ANOVA approach (companing TCQ scores among diagnostic and normal groups). Correlational approach showed that the punishment and woory strategies had positive relationships in various intrustive thoughts and symptoms in common. ANOVA approach showed the differences between clinical and normal groups on punishment and worry strategies. Finally, a process model was proposed, in which intrusive thoughts triggered thought control strategies, which, in turn, affected intrusive thoughts. Future research testing this model is required.
