[Synopsis] As related to environmental problems, we attempted to evaluate the utilization of a compost made from bio-sludge. The tested compost is called ‘Yu-ki Hyakubai’ and is made of bio-sludge from food-related factories. These composts benefit not only recycling technology but also improvethe farm ground properties. One of the composts was also used as a bio-pesticide to control plant disease. We isolated some fungi from the tested compost, and evaluated its effect on plant growth using soil inoculation tests. All the tested fungi promoted the tested plants, i.e., cucumber, tomato and turf grass, growth and emergence. This promotion of plant growth was remarkable in the root system. Additionally, the soil phosphodiesterase enzyme activity also remained at a high level in the soil containing the fungi.
