Japanese radish is mass produced in the region around Miura City. However, the industrial wastes associated with Japanese radish has become a problem of late that society in general can not ignore. It is hoped that this municipality will more effectively utilize their radish-related industrial wastes. The purpose of this research is to investigate the condition of Japanese radish in more detail. The research results were obtained as follows:(1) The variety known as “aokubi" accounted for 99% of production in Miura City, which is the leading producer of Japanese radish in Japan. (2) Waste associated with the production of Japanese radish amounted to 3,700,000kg (which corresponds to 3 million Japanese radishes). Additionally, the total of the industrial wastes of leaf and radish tops comes to about 40,000,000kg. The research showed that the Japanese radish wastes, right after disposal, were certainly edible. (3) The industrial wastes attending on the production of Japanese radish presents many economic and environmental problems for Miura City.
