Distribution of evergreen and summer-green broad-leaved secondary forests along a latitudinal gradient in central japan : with special reference to the subdivision of japanese warm-temperate lucidophyll forest zone

Distributions of evergreen and summer-green broad-leaved secondary forests were described in four sites along a latitudinal gradient in the Izu Peninsula, central Japan. Dominance of evergreen broad-leaved secondary forests decreased gradually from south to north, and finally in the northernmost site, all the secondary forests were occupied by summer-green broad-leaved forests. Evergreen broad-leaved secondary forests were distributed mainly on south-facing slopes and ridges in the southern three sites. I propose to divide the Japanese warm-temperate lucidophyll forest zone into two subzones based on our study on the secondary forest distributions and on primary forest dynamics.
