In the application of the gamma-rays penetration to the measurement of the distribution of void fraction in the quiet packed column which contains solid-air and solid-water mixture, it was derived that the correction factor B for the exponential law of attenuation was expressed as follows, using the penetration distance t, the mixed absorption coeffcient μ_m and intensity of gamma ray I, I_m=I_aB exp(-μ_mt) where μ_m=μ_s(1-ε)+μ_{a,w}ε-μa In the present experiment used 1 1/2" gas pipe with Tokitsu sand, calcium carbonate and red lead, the following empirical corretation were resulted:log B=a log t, λ=a/μ_m≒1 (for δ=0.5cm) Combining above relation, it is possible to calculate the distribution of void fraction in a pipe which contains mixed phase. Two kinds of error e_1, e_2 defined between calculated and measured values of void fraction were 6.37 and 2.61% respectively.
