On the South Coast of New South Wales, Type B platforms and plinging cliffs (Fig.1) are observed in an area where regional differences of both input wave energy and tidal conditions are small. This study attempts to investigate a quantitative relationship between these two coastal types and litholigical conditions (resisting force of rocks). To quantitatively express the resisting force of rocks, Schmidt rock Hammer Reboundness Values, R, was employed in this study. Type B platform and Plinging cliffs are clearly distinguished by R: Type B platform is developed on the voast where R is smaller than 40, and Plunging cligg is formed in an area where R is larger than 40.
