Seismic activities of small earthquakes over Japan have been surveyed by using the "List 2" of the JMA seismological bulletins. This list gives earthquakes observed by the JMA stations and includes earthquakes, locations of which are undetermined and recorded or felt at only one station. In the year of 1971, 2330 earthquake locations are given in the List 2. The lower limit of the magnitude of these earthquakes have been found to be 2.0 to 2.6. For the inland earthquakes, the extent of epicental location of List 2 would be within 20 to 30km.
