Relative gas phase stabilities of ring substituted phenylamino anions were theoretically determined using proton transfer equilibria. Substituent effects of these anions were compared with one another to discuss what kinds of electronic effects are important to determine the gasphase stabilities. According to statistical analyses, the stabilities of phenylamino anions are found to be governed by three kinds of electronic effects: inductive, resonance, and saturation effects. It has become apparent that an extended Yukawa-Tsuno equation is necessary in order to correlate the substituent effects of phenylamino anions as well as benzylic anions.
