The purpose of the present study was: (1) to construct the scale for dependence tendency in the romantic relationship; (2) to examine the relationship between dependence tendency and the object of tendency. The questionnaire was completed by 159 late adolescents. Results of the factor analysis yielded four factors: (1) dependency demands, (2) dependency refusal, (3) maladaptive mode of dependency, and (4) adaptive mode of dependency. Furthermore, results of the cluster analysis revealed three styles of dependency in the romantic relationship: (1) secure dependency, (2) dependency avoidance, and (3) over-dependency. Results of the ANOVA suggested that adolescents with the "secure dependency" style had the good relationship with their partners and others. However, adolescents, whose relationship style, were characterized as "dependency avoidance," were not satisfied in their romantic relationship, and they did not consider their relationship to be important. Finally, adolescents with the "over dependency" style only regarded their relationship with their partners as important, and they tended to neglect other relationship.
