I would like to show here the feature and significance of the method of Beatrice Webb`s note, "On the nature of the Economic Science ", Appendix of her My Apprenticeship, which is Part I of her autobiography and published in 1926. I have already introduced this article in my paper, "On Beatrice Potter Webb's "On the Nature of Economic Science" : Its Introduction and Translation ", which is in Research Reports of the Nagaoka Technical College, 44(1), 2008. And I would also like to examine the outline of her previous economic article, written in 1886, named latterly "The History of English Economics", which is the base of her note. According to My Apprenticeship she criticized the classical political economy as not being realistic, and assumed to extend her research far beyond Market Economy toward Welfare Economy and other Economies of Society by her historical method which had been originated from her previous economic articles. Her historical method is assumed to have the antecedant of the theory of social evolution of Herbert Spencer in social science and the evolutinal theory of Charles Darwin in biology.
