This study examines the development of perspective and representational ability in Paintings by infants in daycare centers. Experiment : the subjects are 150 girls and 150 boys from 4 years old to 6 years old. Task is to paint two apples placed at a 150 centimeters interval. The subjects are instructed to paint two apples as they see. And they are asked which is bigger and nearer. The distance and the size of the two apples are analyzed through their paintings. The results are as follows : ( 1) all of them could answer the distance and the size difference of the two apples correctly. ( 2 ) the ability of painting the distance of the two objects in prespective develops remarkably between four years old and five years old. ( 3 ) the ability of painting the size difference of the two develops gradually between five years old and six years old.
