'Metaphors' make it possible to partially understand concepts in term of other concepts. Lakoff & Johnson claim most of our normal conceptual system is metaphorically structured, and metaphors are based on 'experiential gestalts' with multidimensional structures of causations which result from our daily experiences. Based on the interactions of metaphors and experiential gestalts, this paper describes the conceptual structures of requirements specification from the aspects of context analysis, functional specification, and design constraints. Through the metaphorical characterization of requirements specification in terms of 'container metaphor', 'vehicle metaphor', and 'tool metaphor,' the conceptual structures of understanding the processes, including the description form for requirements specification, are revealed.
