中世大隅正八幡宮をとりまく空間構造－社家館跡の調査から－

This article takes into consideration on an analysis of both locations where o-sumisho-hachimangu shrine，other temples，and mansions are，and “spatial structure" of the Miyauchi area in Hayato town，Kirishima city. As a result，the following three points are found. First the Mansions of Kuwahata，Rusu，Sawa，and Saisho-ji，which were homes to four famous priest families，show that they were surrounded and protected by earthen moats or earthen walls，and constituted a mansion group made up of nearly one hundred mansions. Second it was found that there used to be main roads during the 14th century in this area where historic sites are concentrated，as well as the ports which are related to o-sumisho-hachimangu shrine. Third，the whole area had a closed “spatial structure" as well as protecting the mansions. But on the special occasions such as festivals, it appears that this area might possibly have had an open “spatial structure".
