The Condition on Extraction Domain(CED)(see Huang([25])is only phenomenal. The Subject Condition merely describes the interaction of the following independent assumptions in the framework of the minimalist program: the Phase Impenetrability Condition, the Copy Theory of Movement, and the principle of derivational economy(Pesetsky and Torrego's[47]). The Adjunct Condition is violable when the edge of adjuncts is available as an escape hatch for subextraction due to the PIC. The current analysis contributes not only to excluding the CED from the grammar but also to making far more articulate predictions about extraction phenomena in general.
