The purpose of this paper is to explore the logics and the limits of the school involvement by the guardians/ the local residents. The guardians/ the local residents are urged to be involved in school management and educational activities in recent years. This paper analyzes how the guardians/ the local residents establish a relationship with the school and what kind of practices they make. The study is conducted by fieldwork at an elementary school, and I survey the opinions of the guardians / the local residents in the position of a volunteer who support the school activities.// The points that have become clear by the fieldwork are as follows. 1. It is not easy for the guardians / the local residents in the position of a volunteer to set foot in the domain where the professionalism of a teacher is demonstrated because they depend on the school for the validity of existence and the responsibility for their practices. 2. The guardians / the local residents think the roles that the volunteers should play must be segregated from the roles that the teachers should play. If the guardians / the local residents do not raise any alternatives to the teachers, they could be used as cheap labor.
