Planar pn-heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices using 4,4',4''-tris[3-methylphenyl(phenyl)- amino]triphenylamine (m-MTDATA) and 4,4’-bis[3-methylphenyl(phenyl)amino]-1,1’-biphenyl (TPD) as electron donors and C60 as an electron acceptor were fabricated, and their performance was compared with each other. It was found that the TPD/C60 device exhibited higher performance than that of the m-MTDATA/C60 device and that both the deeper HOMO energy level of TPD and two-orders of magnitude greater hole mobilities of TPD relative to m-MTDATA are responsible for the higher performance of the TPD/C60 device.
