In competitions like Judo and Sumo, where opponents wrestle with each other, evasive actions when one opponent has predicted the move of the other can lead to the toppling of the lager opponent. This research investigates postural control during such kinds of activities, while consider predictable postural adjustment function. “Pushing strength”was measured by a device with a lever which could workfor a subject forward. The differing degree of predictability for postural disturbance (movement of the lever) was examined in 10 subjects under the following 2 conditions of pushing movement while in standing position: in Known condition the subject was informed of the lever movement, and in Unknown condition the subject was not informed of the lever movement. Under both condition, 18 trials involved movement (Movable task) and 12 trials involved no movement (Stationary task) for a total of 36 trials conducted in random order. Subjects were instructed to push the lever forcefully and as quickly as possible on an visual stimulus, or to regain their standing posture if the lever moved. Posture, center of mass (COM) and tension observed during each task was recorded, and the following results were obtained. 1) Inall subject showed a positive correlation of the displacement of COM between Known and Unknown condition in Movable task, and as for those correlations, the difference was seen in each subject in Stationary task. 2) In all subjects showed a positive correlation of the pushing strength and thedisplacement in station- ary task under Unknown condition. As a result, it was suggested that the movement be accomplished based on the postural control with which it provided in one with a high risk under a more uncertain prediction, and the effect on the COM by the prediction for the forwarddisturbance influenced directly the pattern of the pushing strength.
