This study examined the time series variation of and relation between cognitive reactions (subjective anxiety) and physiological reactions to social anxiety in terms of synchrony-desynchrony. The results showed that the high social anxiety group experienced significantly higher anxiety than the low social anxiety group in all sessions, and STAI scores in both groups increased significantly from the anticipatory anxiety situation and the face-to-face situation to the self-introduction situation. Heart rate (HR) showed interaction between groups and between sessions. The high social anxiety group showed higher HR than the low social anxiety group, and the low social anxiety group showed higher HR than the low group in the self-introduction situation. The high social anxiety group tends to show a greater increase in HR from the anticipatory anxiety situation to the face-to-face situation than the low group, whereas the low group didn't show the tendency. No synchrony was found among indicators in the high social anxiety group, but in the low social anxiety group, there was synchrony in the moderate anxiety arousal situation and a synchrony tendency in the intense anxiety arousal situation.
