論文In Gunma Prefecture, September 9, 19, and 29 were named as "MIKUNCHI" - ミクンチ, on the day which the festival in autumn was held. ln this paper, I described the dynamics of narratives referring "KUNCHI" from ancient to the present age, thus it is paid attention to that "KUNCHI" was not a mere holiday but a reference point of historical narratives, too. In medieval period religious concept of "KU"-苦 was valued in society. So Buddhist's mythological explanation of "KU" decided a meaning of "KUNCHI ". In medieval myth of province KOZUKE, September 9 was assumed to have been a day when people had offered "Human sacrifice" to "HACHIRO"-八郎, who had been suffering from agony of "being serpent-formed". An idea regarding "serpent-formed" divine as suffering one was originated from a medieval concept that "KU" was the very moment of sanctifying "serpent-formed" divines. Thus in that myth it is told that what saved "HACHIRO"-八郎 was a grace of Buddhist's scriptures, so "HACHIRO" turned to a guardian deity of province KOZUKE on September 9. A mythological concept of origin was combined with the notion of "KU" in medieval period. In Edo period, because of the similarity of "KU" and "KIKU ", It came to be thought that September 19 was an anniversary of "OKIKU"-お菊 who had been murdered. Because of her horrible curse, the revengeful ghost "OKIKU" would be enshrined. When her grave was made, she came to be considered to be a historical figure. These phenomena were related to the rise of "the historical and linage consciousness"- 家意識と歴史意識 at the early modern age. A religious ideology of the medieval period lost the persuasive power at the early modern age. According to the change of consciousness, the myth changed into the legends, and the legend changed into the historical fact. It is concluded that pluralism of "KIKU" and "KU" spinning a new story in that change.
