Theoretical analysis is carried out on the radiation and reflection of the sound wave from an open end of a circular pipe. This problem is very important to investigate the characteristics of the impulsive noise, which is generated by the emission of a compression wave from an open end of a tube. It is assumed that the diameter of a circular tube is small compared to the wave length. The reflection coefficient R, length of open end correction le, coefficient of directivity Q (θ) and power gain function g (θ) as function of ka are shown in cases of infinite flanged pipe and unflaged pipe at the end.
