4-Acetoxy-8,8-dicyano-1-methoxyheptafulvene and 3-acetoxy-8,8-dicyano-4-methoxyheptafulvene, were synthesized with condensation of 2,5-dialkoxytropone derivatives to malononitrile. Subsequent saponification yielded 8,8-dicyano-5-hydroxy-1-methoxyheptafulvene and 8,8-dicyano-4-hydroxy-5-methoxyheptafulvene.
