Pure heptacosane was vapor-deposited onto various kinds of substrates under l mPa. The textures of the deposited sample were examined by TEM and SEM observations and X-ray diffraction. They were well defined according to the orientation of the molecular axis to the substrate. One was normal (N type) and the other paralle1(P type) to the substrate. Initially the N type texture was formed and then the P type became predominated. This feature did not depend on the nature of the substrate, Cu foil to polymer films. The P type texture was described as a erect flat plate. The thickness of the plate was approximately constant irrespective of its length, and the height increased with the length. As the deposition temperature decreased the thickness increased. DSC measurement was also applied to characterize the deposited sample.
