The subject was a 22 year old male with anxiety responses during a university entrance examinations in which he failed for three years. The first eight months with the subject were devoted to autogenic standard exercises. During this period, the subject's headaches, which occurred many times in the previous year, were nullified. Anxiety hierarchies were then constructed and five systematic desensitization sessions followed. Four physiological measurements including ECG, HR, FPG, GSR were recorded by polygraph to measure the sympathetic functions. After these sessions the subject reported that he was able to handle the preliminary examinations much better. But a retest on the MAS (Taylor's Manifest Anxiety Scale) showed a sharp increase from 17 to 33. During the final entrance examinations, there was a heavy reoccurrence of headaches. But there were no longer any anxiety responses and he passed the examination successfully. It was considered that this case was not a monosymptomatic phobia to which desensitization techniques could usefully be employed. Futher it was considered that the operant conditioning process should be used to treat the symptoms. A sharp increase in the MAS and headaches during the entrance examinations along with the disappearance of anxiety responses suggested the complexity of the symptoms. Thus it was concluded that although the treatment ended when half completed the subject achieved his purpose.
