A friendly relationship of Japan with China was developed in Narakawa-mura, Nagano Prefecture, so that Kiso-lacquerware suppliers tried to import China lacquer from 1950's to 70's by themselves instead of lacquer traders. The movement was constructive with the Japan-China relationships under the Cold War and can find locality. This paper examines the history of the traditional lacquerware district Narakawa-mura, backed on the development of Japan-China relationships, picking out key persons. After the Nagasaki Chinese flag accident in 1958, Narakawa-mura began to be conscious of China and move positively, but was not able to succeed in importing. Keeping in close touch with outer keyperson's activities, they got to be able to import lacquer again. The leaders of the village associated frequently with China and built human connections and confidence steadily afterwards. And they also gained fame as a typical example of villages at promoting Japan-China friendships in the media. It is concluded that the key persons were brought out because of good political base as well as trade relationships of lacquer as vital natural resource. The author also has a hypothesis that the key persons have the ordinary, daily experience that they had stayed in China in the days of Manchurian settlements before 1945.
