Two-step aging behavior of Al-Si-O. 8%Mg casting alloys containing 0~10% Si was investigated by means of mechanical properties, electrical resistivity and transmission electron microscopy. The alloys were solution-treated at 535℃, quenched, pre-aged at 25~125℃ and finally aged at 180℃ for 5hr. The pre-aging at 25℃ decrease and 75 or 125℃ increase in the strength of finally aged alloys containing 0.46%Si. (1.26%Mg2Si). The alloys containing more than 1%Si is insusceptible to pre-aging. It is suggested shat the clusters formed during pre-aging change possibility to transform into G.P zones with pre-aging temperature and excess Si.
