In January and February, 1908, Rofu Miki became pressman of literary columns in the 'Seikei', issued every ten days. He earned a hard living, pursuing literature, and his actual hardships obliged him to write to one of his best friends, Nobuyuki Utsumi, letters which meant almost a breach of friendship, being carried away by a fit of passion. Nobuyuki, on the other hand, continued to console him with every means of warm compassion. At one time, when resigned his post as a pressman, Rofu was given some financial aids by Nobuyuki. Then on April 1908, when Nobuyuki was informed by one of his friends, that Rofu was attacked by a serious disease and was sent to hospital he consumed all of his savings since boyhood for Rofu. Moreover hearing his poverty after leaving hospital, such as his lying in bed in school-uniforms at his lodging, he told his wife, Tsuyuko, to sew and make 'Yukata', that is, a light dressing-gown, and ordered to send it to him. It was by this ardent friendship of Mr. and Mrs. Utsumi that Rofu could devote himself to poetry and establish his position in the poetical circles. This treatise is to prove these facts by the evidences found in their correspondence.
