1) Adventitious roots from excised root segments were histologically investigated in a dandelion, Taraxacum japonicum. 2) They were endogenous in origin, arising from cells close to the vascular bundles which were newly formed in mother tissues. 3) Vascular bundles in mother tissues were indispensable for the formation of adventitious roots. 4) Adventitious roots occurred less frequently and took more time in development than the adventitious buds that were reported in the previous paper. 5) The formation of adventitious roots was more frequent in the season from late autumn to winter than in other seasons.
