The Aging of Japanese population is running up rapidly. In 1985 the aging rate was 10.6%, and we estimate 23.6% in 2020. In Nara prefecture the aging rate was 10.1% in 1985, and ll.4% in1990. If aging gose on at this pace, we think, the living of the local areas could fundamentally go different. And each local area will have a wide range of subjects awaiting solution from the standpoint of lifelong education. I estimated the aging rate of all areas in Nara prefecture for finding out the future problems and tasks relative to the lifelong education. I recognized the following facts. ① There are substantial differences at the aging rate among each local areas. On coming up to 21 century, in 6-8 villages in the south of prefecture, it will already have reached the point of over 35%: the highest is 50%. The difference (36%) between the highest and the lowest is remarkable. ② There is a difference between male and female as well. Female rate of aging is more higher than male. ③ The actual numbers of children are on the decrease. ④ Draining-away of youths still goes on, too. ⑤ The actual numbers of old-old agers (over 75 years old) in all local areas have sharply increased in these thirty years, and will affirmatively be increasing. ⑥ I recognized two patterns in the progress of aging: one is the predominance of old-old agers in some villages, and another is the case of remarkable increasing old-agers in the cities. So we should indispensably take these progress of aging into consideration on the making of educational plan for all local areas.
